The 4revs team welcomes contributions to expand the contents of this book in 2024. We welcome input from all the members of the ecosystem and from participating companies!

The triple planetary crisis of climate change, pollution and biodiversity loss is a consequence of human activity and productivity, and the role of business led innovation in tackling this cannot be underestimated. Businesses all over the world and over time have been pursuing profitability, often at tremendous costs. Putting purpose over profit, long term benefits over short term financial growth, and sustainability over technical innovations can be the way of fearless leadership.

Is it possible to envision more sustainable business making? What are the green swans which we can make happen if we change how businesses all over the world operate?

At the moment, the 4Revs Handbook showcase inspiring examples of innovation and leadership from all continents, on a broad range of topics. We depart from the main four revolutions addressed in NELIS’s 4Revs program (water sustainability, food systems, circular resource use, and energy & climate change) and expand these into more specific topics, such as:

• ocean regeneration

• soil and land stewardship

• sustainable design

• bio-based materials innovations, and others.

Here is a list of topics and questions that we wish to explore further:

• Impact AI: How can businesses contribute to diminishing the environmental impact of AI, while harnessing its potential?

• AgriTech for good: What type of innovations actually contribute to rebuilding the food system and regenerating communities living off the land, rather than perpetuate a flawed agricultural system?

• Biodiversity Bets: How can investing in biodiversity create business opportunities?

• Sustainability Financing: What are the models which actually create impact?

• Many others. We are looking for insights into all topics!

What types of contributions are we looking for?

• A chapter: articulates a high level overview on a topic and answers several specific questions

• A thought article: problematizes a critical aspect related to businesses achieving sustainability

• A company update: a short text, similar to a news article, about a company innovation in sustainability

You don’t need to be a writer to contribute to a chapter in this handbook! We encourage contributions from researchers, designers, engineers, ESG experts, CSR managers who are knowledgeable and interested to explore wicked questions.
